Introduction to searching Proquest databases Online
Proquest is a large multidisciplinary platform for literature searching, it hosts a number of widely used bibliographic databases including ABI Inform, International Bibliography of Art, Literature Online and many more. Proquest contains many different types of material including the full text of books, articles, newspapers and theses.
During this session we will demonstrate the main features and functionality of the Proquest platform, including keyword and subject heading searching, constructing a search, exporting results and finding the full text.
Attendees are expected to already possess a basic knowledge of search skills such as truncation, Boolean operators (AND, OR) and phrase searching, and to have some familiarity with the principles of literature searching. Students without experience of literature searching are recommended to look at this page about search techniques in advance. This session will focus on the application of these techniques in the Proquest platform.
After the demonstration there will be an opportunity to ask questions. The session will run for an hour, but tutors will remain for an additional 30 minutes if there are any questions which have not been answered during the hour. This demonstration session does not offer hands-on practice or time to explore very complex queries. Please contact us or the relevant site library or subject librarian for individual specialist support.
This session is being delivered using Zoom. See joining instructions.
